<DIV></DIV>&gt;Tom asks:
<DIV></DIV>&gt;"Which is more acceptable to you, Ms. Huskey? Pitying those women and children
<DIV></DIV>&gt;that were forced into harm's way and died as a result? Or packing up the
<DIV></DIV>&gt;belongings of three or four more dead soldiers to be sent to their widows?"
<DIV></DIV>&gt;
<DIV></DIV>&gt;Why should one of these situations have to be more acceptable than the other? Are both not equally tragic? I don't want to have to pity dead Iraqi women and children *OR* pack up the belongings of dead soldiers. This, as Sunil has already said, was a war of choice, not chance. It's beyond argument to declare that Saddam Hussein is responsible for putting his people in harm's way; of course he is. He's responsible for brutalizing them and terrorizing them. What we're responsible for is choosing to respond militarily. We're like the cops in a hostage situation who have made the decision to end negotiations and go in guns drawn. When the hostages wind up dead, sure, it's ultimately Saddam's fault, but that's no comfort to the relatives of the slain or the poor cop with his finger on the trigger.
