I must confess that I was very surprised by the enthusiasm of the responses to my last request for agenda items. (Why doesn't English have a punctuation mark to indicate sarcasm?) I've been able to find a place to put all of the topic suggestions receive to date on the agenda. As you'll see below, I've tentatively put some "place holders" in the remaining open slots. So far, here is what we have:

* Welcome: Approval of Minutes; Housekeeping

* Trombetta vs. Comm'r, T.C. Memo. 2013-234-Jonathan Blattmachr will discuss this case in which the Tax Court ruled that a taxpayer's lifetime transfers of real property to two trusts were transfers with a retained interest, and, therefore, the properties were includible in her gross estate.

* Sharp v. Comm'r, TC Memo 2013-290-I'm hoping that the 706/709 Reporting/Audits/Pymts/Deferral/Penalties Subcommittee will report on this case and offer suggestions for steps advisors can take in proving reasonable cause in avoiding accuracy related penalties.

* Clanton vs. Earp, or "Doc takes a Holliday." The impact on estate planning of gang violence in 19th century Tombstone.

* GST Subcommittee report: Can GSTT legitimately be meant to stand for "Going South To Tucson"?

* Case Law Update: Miranda vs. Arizona-Just because you have the right to remain silent doesn't mean that you should exercise that right when helping plan an agenda for the Estate and Gift Tax Committee Meeting.

* Open Forum: The Javelina: Pig or peccary? Either way, they make good eatin'.

* The stately saguaro-more than just a Western movie stage prop. The Decanting Subcommittee will discuss the best uses of potable and non-potable water on keeping these giants of the Desert Southwest healthy. If time permits, we'll debate the relative merits of Saguaro National Monument East vs. Saguaro National Monument West.

*         New business

*         Adjourn

As you can see, there is still PLENTY OF ROOM for your topic ideas.

In all seriousness, the real strength of this committee is in the willingness of its members to share their ideas, thoughts and concerns. PLEASE take 5 minutes today to let me know what you want to see on our next agenda!

Happy New Year!
